This will be a new series where I recommend spots around Las Vegas for engagement, pre-wedding, and honeymoon sessions. Some are close to the Las Vegas Strip, maybe half an hour away, and some are as far as five hours away, so save the website to bookmark and check back once in a while (we are working on a newsletter so that you are up to date in the quickest way possible) Hope you enjoy.
The first locations are Nelson Ghost Town and El Dorado Dry Lake Bed. They are about 15-20 minutes apart, and to get to the Nelson Ghost Town, we have to go past the El Dorado Dry Lake Bed. So, whenever we go out that way, we usually try to do the session in both locations. Both are very unique in their way. And it’s a good balance of busy and peaceful. Both can suit well for engagement, pre-wedding, and honeymoon sessions. There a lot of elopement that happens out here, but I’ll talk about that further down the post. I have to say, in recent years, these spots have become very popular with couples outside of the Las Vegas Strip.
Nelson Ghost Town is called the ghost town because it used to be a mining town right next to the Colorado River. There was a flash flooding that wiped out the village. So, no one lives there besides this family who manages the area. To have a photo session there, we would have to check in. Some dangerous elements around, such as rattlesnakes and cacti, penetrate the skin or anything very quickly but are challenging to remove. So the people there make sure that we are aware of that.
It is like a Western-style movie set with vintage cars. There are even two aeroplanes that were used in the movie. Those two planes were from two movies, but I am not familiar with the movies. So we utilize all these fantastic backdrops to photograph any engagement, pre-wedding and honeymoon photos. The type of photos you won’t see anywhere else or very difficult to get. Another great thing about this location is that this place is not that big, so we don’t have to walk a lot to get to different spots to change up the scenes. So, we get many shots for an hour or two while there. This is also a popular spot for model shoots, photography workshops or western-themed advertisements.
I mentioned I would talk about weddings and elopement that happens here, too, right? Recently, Nelson Ghost Town built a chapel. So now, you can get married at this place. This is a beautiful place. A lot of couples did elopement at the Eldorado Dry Lake Bed, but even though it is a lovely place, it can get very windy. Hills and mountains surround Nelson Ghost Town, so even if the wind blows down at Eldorado Dry Lake Bed, the wind doesn’t affect this area as much. So it’s perfect for a Micro Wedding with maybe 10 to 30 people. It can accommodate up to about 50 people, but that would be a tight squeeze. Please contact Bobby at Nelson Ghost Town for the rates and availability.
As mentioned above, the El Dorado Dry Lake Bed is a trendy spot for an elopement. It is located just before going into Nelson ghost town. Even though it’s a fairly large empty spot, people driving past don’t know the significance of this place. How beautiful this place can be. There aren’t many open land that is not obtrusive and are surrounded by beautiful landscape. One of the reasons I like this place so much, probably because it is a popular elopement location and loved by many photographers, is that it is where you can be yourself. There are lots of couples who can be camera shy or in front of other people around. For example, doing a shoot on the Las Vegas Strip is very nervous for many people. So, if you’re one of those people here, you will have no one else. It can be a very easy place to concentrate on interacting and creating something incredible. Some people go as far as doing a couple of boudoir shoots or boudoir maternity sessions.
So, if you are someone who wants to get away from the Las Vegas Strip for something more interesting, just the two of you and I can take some photos. These spots are amazing. I can come and pick you up from your hotel and get to know each other a little more on the way to the Nelson Ghost Town or Dry Lake Bed (We switch them around depending on the time of the session). By the time we arrive, we will be friendly and relaxed and ready to have lots of fun. Oh, I almost forgot. One more upside to this place is that it is one of only a few locations where I can fly drones to give a different perspective to your session. I usually aim for the session to be about four hours, including the travel time. But depending on how much fun we have, we can make it a little longer or a little shorter.
